About
Mold A Bait
Growing up
in the Midwest during the late 50's through the 70's meant hard work
and not much time left for recreational activities. We went fishing
almost every day, not for sport, but for food. In the very early mornings
we would go set lines in the river and then head for the garden to work
for most of the day. Then mowing lawns and later working at jobs took
up the rest of our time as we grew older. In the late evening we would
go run lines again and then spend some time pole fishing for catfish
and sturgeon which was my personal favorite.
On the weekends
we would head for the ponds and the lakes and fish for crappie and bass.
Even carp were kept and cooked up and canned a lot like mackerel or
salmon is done today.
Fishing was
a necessary activity, but was always looked forward to at the end of
a hard days work. Other than crappie lures, which we often times made
ourselves, all of the bait we used was either caught, made, dug up,
or grown. We never bought any bait unless we used liver, which even
that more often than not came from the chickens my grandfather raised.
As family,
jobs, and living locations changed over time, fishing no longer remained
a necessary survival activity, but had become a recreational activity
to get away from the daily hectic grind and was an opportunity to get
back to our roots for a while.
We didn't
have time to gather or grow our own fish baits anymore, so of course,
we started buying it like everyone else. As fishing became more of a
sport and a recreational activity, the lure and bait industry changed
along with it of course, and so did we.
Having grown
up with using natural and eco friendly products for bait, I was always
disturbed by the introduction of unnatural silicone rubber baits. We
were always more conscientious of our environment, if the fish and wildlife
stayed healthy, then we did too.
There is
a huge amount of rubber bait and lures lost while fishing, and the fish
and other wildlife will consume these non eco friendly products. Silicone
does not digest and can cause blockages in the intestines of these animals.
In reality, even though they feed on these things, they can die because
of the blockages caused from these UN-digestible materials or even die
from hunger even though they are full.
We grew up
living green before Al Gore or anyone else for that matter ever made
it popular. The idea of living and using sustainable products from 'Cradle
to Cradle' and taking care of the environment was absolutely a necessity
in life.
There are
many more people that go fishing than there are golfers, and people
that fish are generally more conscientious about the environment than
people that participate in other types of sports or recreational activities.
Fisherman are also more inventive, and like to try new things and personalize
their own way of landing the big one.
In my constant
search to find ways to improve things, and with my unique mold making
capability, I was developing different products to cast in my molds
that customers could use when I realized that this new organic based
material I was working on had some of the same properties of silicone
rubber, being soft, natural feeling, and could be colored like living
things, but none of the bad things about it for the environment like
silicone rubber and other man made materials do. Fish and wildlife could
actually consume this product and suffer no ill effects from it.
My goal has
always been to manufacture and sell greener products that either last
a very long time or are 100% eco friendly. Mold A Bait fits that
description perfectly.
Mold A Bait
is also an energy saving material. It only takes 30 seconds to a minute
in a microwave to melt it for pouring into the molds. It will re set
up back into it's rubbery like state at room temperature, so no further
energy is required to finish a casting. You can of course put it in
the refrigerator to speed up the process, but it isn't necessary. It
does have to be put in a sealed container or it will dry out on the
surface. Even this may be desirable if you want to play with different
ways to use it. Keeping in mind that natural living things have hard
surfaces too, like crayfish and insects, there are endless possibilities
for being creative with Mold A Bait
Mold a Bait
is truly a Green Earth Friendly fishing bait and lure making product.
There are as many ways to make Mold A Bait a personal lure and
bait alternative as there are fisherman!
